The Hess Collection Winery is a California winery located in the Napa Valley region, known for producing a wide range of wine styles using traditional techniques and modern technology.
The winery was founded in 1978 by Donald Hess, a Swiss businessman, who was inspired by the beauty of the Napa Valley and the potential for producing high-quality wines in the region. Hess purchased a property in the Mount Veeder area of the Napa Valley and began planting grapevines, initially focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon. In the years that followed, the winery expanded its vineyard holdings to include additional properties in the Napa Valley, including the Allomi and Lion’s Head vineyards. These vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel.
The Hess Collection Winery has a strong commitment to sustainability and uses environmentally friendly practices in its vineyard and winemaking operations. This includes using cover crops and integrated pest management techniques to reduce the need for synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and using renewable energy sources to power the winery. In addition, the winery has implemented water conservation measures and has worked to preserve and protect the natural habitat on its properties.
In the winemaking process, the Hess Collection Winery focuses on using traditional techniques and modern technology to produce high-quality wines that reflect the unique character of the Napa Valley terroir. This includes using small-lot fermentations, oak barrel aging, and judicious use of new oak to create complex and nuanced wines. The winery has a state-of-the-art winemaking facility that includes both traditional and modern equipment, such as stainless steel fermentation tanks and oak barrels for aging.
The Hess Collection Winery produces a wide range of wine styles, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon wines are known for their richness and depth of flavor, while the Chardonnay wines are known for their balance and complexity. The winery also produces a number of limited-edition and small-lot wines, which showcase the unique character of specific vineyards or grape varieties.
Overall, the Hess Collection Winery is known for producing high-quality wines that showcase the unique character of the Napa Valley region and the winery’s commitment to sustainability. The winery’s commitment to quality and sustainability has earned it a reputation as one of the leading wineries in the Napa Valley region.

3 months agoThis is our favorite winery hands down. They have a very personalized experience to their tours and you really get to experience the winery. We have done the ATV tour and the cheese pairing experience. We are members and we attended a lobster feast this year. I'll say the art museum is very worth the visit by itself and so is just walking around the grounds, but it is enhanced by the staff who are extremely knowledgeable. The wine is amazing and for what it is, it is reasonably priced. I encourage anyone in the area to schedule a tour and a tasting. But know that you do need to schedule a time, you cannot just show up to the winery and taste. This is a big part of what creates such an intimate and personal experience.

3 months agoWe had such a great experience here! Our guide was so welcoming and knowledgeable. This was unique to other wineries we visited since we got a tour of the art gallery and the estate. Our guide was dedicated just to us for our visit and we left feeling like friends! The wine is excellent and we got more of an education here than any of our other stops.

3 months agoHess offers a really fun ATV tour and wine | food pairing. Our tour guide Michael was great and extremely experienced. There were several vineyards we visited where staff was new, which is understandable, but I appreciate someone that’s seen the business change over the years. The grounds were fun to see in the ATV, but the food and wine pairing were absolutely delicious. It was some of the best food and wine we had while visiting. Definitely better than any of the restaurants we went to. The experience was on the high side price wise, but worth it. Thanks for the fun experience!

6 months agoMy experience at Hess Persson Winery was nothing short of exceptional. Our tour guide, Michael, was an absolute gem. His passion for his job was palpable, and his explanations of the winemaking process and the identification of the various trees on the vineyard were enlightening. The wine itself was the highlight of our Napa weekend; in fact, it was the best we tasted throughout our numerous winery visits. The Hess experience truly stands out from the rest. The food pairings were thoughtfully curated and absolutely delicious, enhancing the tasting experience even further. I was so impressed that I immediately ordered wine to be shipped home, and I can't wait to join their wine club soon. Hess Persson Winery has set the bar high for wine tasting experiences in Napa Valley.
