Silver Oak Napa Valley is a winery located in the Napa Valley region of California, known for producing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Founded in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer, Silver Oak has a long and storied history in the world of wine.
The founders of Silver Oak were inspired by the great Bordeaux wines of France and set out to create a similar style of wine in California. They believed that the Napa Valley had the potential to produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, and set about finding the perfect vineyards to grow their grapes.
Today, Silver Oak sources its grapes from two main vineyards: the Alexander Valley vineyard in Sonoma County, and the Napa Valley vineyard in Napa County. Both vineyards are known for their ideal growing conditions, with the Alexander Valley vineyard producing grapes with more structured tannins and the Napa Valley vineyard producing grapes with more fruit-forward flavors.
In terms of grape varieties, Silver Oak is primarily focused on Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery also produces a small amount of Merlot, which is used in its limited-edition “Twelve” wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Once the grapes are harvested, they are taken to the winery for fermentation and aging. Silver Oak uses a combination of traditional wine making techniques and modern technology to produce its wines. The winery uses small, open-top fermenters to allow for maximum contact between the grapes and the skins, which helps to extract maximum flavor and tannins. The wines are then aged in oak barrels, which helps to round out the flavors and add complexity.
Silver Oak is known for its commitment to sustainability, and has implemented a number of eco-friendly practices at its winery. These include the use of solar panels to power the winery, a recycling program, and the use of natural pest control methods. These efforts have earned Silver Oak a “Green Business” certification from the Napa County Green Business Program.
Visitors to Silver Oak Napa Valley can tour the winery and taste its wines at the tasting room. The winery also offers a range of wine-related experiences, including food and wine pairing classes and vineyard tours.
Overall, Silver Oak Napa Valley is a top destination for wine lovers visiting the Napa Valley region. Its commitment to sustainability, along with its focus on high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon wines and its use of traditional wine making techniques, make it a must-visit for anyone interested in the world of wine.

a month agoWhat a beautiful winery! We had a wine tasting reserved at 1pm on a Monday for a large group of 23, and David was the sommelier that walked us through the property, talked about the history and making of the wine here, and guided us the entire time we were there. We tried two Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma ($100 per bottle) and Napa Valley ($200 per bottle), in addition to an older bottle from 2013 which was around $285 per bottle. They also gave us a tasting of Sauvignon Blanc from their sister winery called Twomey. Our wine tasting came with meat and cheese, and the truffle cheese was divine. The weather was perfect to sit outside and enjoy the view and wine. As a parting gift, David gave each one of us a Silver Oak glass. This winery only produces Cabernet Sauvignon so keep that in mind if you don’t like red or a full-bodied wine, but otherwise, definitely recommend!
