A Gem of the Mexican Altiplano
Nestled in the heart of the Mexican Altiplano, the Bodega Dos Buhos vineyards stand tall at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,600 feet). Surrounded by panoramic mountain vistas, these vineyards are a testament to the synergy between nature and man.
Climate and Terrain
This high-altitude location is blessed with a dry and temperate climate, boasting average temperatures that swing between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). The vineyards thrive in volcanic soil, enriched by a blend of sand, clay, and limestone.
A Medley of Grape Varieties
Bodega Dos Buhos showcases a diverse range of grape varieties. The vineyards flourish with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc. These vines are meticulously trained using the traditional Guyot method. This results in a low canopy, promoting adequate air circulation and sunlight exposure, key factors in preventing disease and ensuring optimal ripening.
Winemaking Process
Harvesting is an art at Bodega Dos Buhos. Grapes are handpicked and swiftly transported to the winery for processing. In homage to time-tested traditions, the winery employs minimal intervention techniques. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wines mature gracefully in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months.
An Emblem of Organic Farming
Taking a step forward in sustainable farming, Bodega Dos Buhos is proud to be certified organic. Emphasizing methods that bolster soil health and biodiversity, the vineyard refrains from using synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Moreover, they adopt an eco-friendly approach by irrigating the vines with collected rainwater.
A Brief History
Experience the Enchantment
The vineyards aren’t just a hub of winemaking; they are also a haven of serenity and natural beauty. Visitors are treated to breathtaking mountain views, crisp air, and the tranquil ambiance of the vineyard. The winery is open for tours and tastings, making it a cherished stop for oenophiles across the globe.

a week ago⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bodega Dos Búhos – San Miguel de Allende Such a beautiful place! We had a wonderful lunch and everything was fantastic. The salad was especially delicious, made with fresh herbs from their own garden. We also enjoyed three of their wines — each one was excellent. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy great food, wine, and scenery. 100% recommended if you’re visiting San Miguel de Allende! 🍷🌿✨

6 months agoThis was the highlight of our trip to San Miguel! What a lovely, rustic yet elegant winery. Our tour was interesting and we loved learning about this family run vineyard. Great wines and interesting combinations to create new versions. After the tour we sat at the restaurant and enjoyed a glass of wine and cheese plate. We highly recommend if you are trying to decide which winery, go here.

a month agoDos Búhos, located about 30 minutes from San Miguel de Allende is a truly exceptional, family-owned winery located just east of San Miguel de Allende in the foothills of Los Picachos, where over 60 years of organic farming—once dedicated to fruit trees and legumes—has evolved into a meticulously maintained 12-hectare vineyard. Under the stewardship of Diane and her son Eric Maycotte, the winery produces estate-grown, organic varietals like Chenin Blanc, Aglianico Gran Reserva, Tempranillo, and Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva, crafted with minimal intervention, native yeasts, and even baroque music during barrel aging to enhance each wine’s character. On our visit, we were warmly welcomed by Diane and Eric, toured the vineyards and production areas, and were captivated by their commitment to terroir, sustainability, and artistry in every bottle. Guests can also enjoy a full meal from the on-site restaurant, with dishes thoughtfully paired to their wines—our impeccably prepared ribs and artichoke hamburgers were a highlight, complemented by a full array of tastings. For anyone exploring the San Miguel wine region, Dos Búhos offers an intimate, delicious, and educational experience that beautifully expresses Guanajuato’s organic winemaking vision.
