A Gem of the Mexican Altiplano
Nestled in the heart of the Mexican Altiplano, the Bodega Dos Buhos vineyards stand tall at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,600 feet). Surrounded by panoramic mountain vistas, these vineyards are a testament to the synergy between nature and man.
Climate and Terrain
This high-altitude location is blessed with a dry and temperate climate, boasting average temperatures that swing between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). The vineyards thrive in volcanic soil, enriched by a blend of sand, clay, and limestone.
A Medley of Grape Varieties
Bodega Dos Buhos showcases a diverse range of grape varieties. The vineyards flourish with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc. These vines are meticulously trained using the traditional Guyot method. This results in a low canopy, promoting adequate air circulation and sunlight exposure, key factors in preventing disease and ensuring optimal ripening.
Winemaking Process
Harvesting is an art at Bodega Dos Buhos. Grapes are handpicked and swiftly transported to the winery for processing. In homage to time-tested traditions, the winery employs minimal intervention techniques. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wines mature gracefully in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months.
An Emblem of Organic Farming
Taking a step forward in sustainable farming, Bodega Dos Buhos is proud to be certified organic. Emphasizing methods that bolster soil health and biodiversity, the vineyard refrains from using synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Moreover, they adopt an eco-friendly approach by irrigating the vines with collected rainwater.
A Brief History
Experience the Enchantment
The vineyards aren’t just a hub of winemaking; they are also a haven of serenity and natural beauty. Visitors are treated to breathtaking mountain views, crisp air, and the tranquil ambiance of the vineyard. The winery is open for tours and tastings, making it a cherished stop for oenophiles across the globe.

a month agoThis was the highlight of our trip to San Miguel! What a lovely, rustic yet elegant winery. Our tour was interesting and we loved learning about this family run vineyard. Great wines and interesting combinations to create new versions. After the tour we sat at the restaurant and enjoyed a glass of wine and cheese plate. We highly recommend if you are trying to decide which winery, go here.

2 weeks agoTen out of five stars! We had such a nice time here. We are traveling for two weeks around central Mexico. When my husband took his first sip of wine under the mesquite tree, he said, "This alone was worth the flight." The wine tour was very interesting and we definitely appreciated tasting the different wines during every stop of the tour. Remember to tip your tour guide for their professional expertise! Then we stayed and ordered lunch. The menu was small, but every option looked so interesting! We got the charcuterie for two, the duck tacos, and the pork ribs. As expected, every dish paired super well with the sparkling rosé. I would love to be able to enjoy those pork ribs again. P.S. My husband and I are easily distracted/entertained. The tiny little chickens, the bees, the bugs in the mesquite trees; all of these little creatures were very interesting to us and contributed to an overall supremely pleasant experience. P.P.S. The only tiny request I would have: please let us know how the tips are distributed. We tipped our tour guide, and we tipped 20% on our bill for lunch, but there were 2-3 people tending to us while we ate and drank. I hope the tip is shared, or could we get more clear instructions on tipping people individually. Everyone here was super informed, attentive, and professional and we had such a great experience, it just made me want to make sure we were doing the right thing. The wines were all good! Our favorites were the sparkling rosé, which we had with lunch. We also brought a bottle of the tempranillo home with us. The Sauvignon Blanc was also very nice, and the dessert wine. Honestly there wasn't anything that I wouldn't be happy to have again.

8 months agoPretty cool Mexican winery. Our first time tasting in San Miguel, different than Guadalupe. Most are only open Wednesday to Sunday. To taste at this place you need an appointment and only available if you do a tour. We have done lots of tours and just wanted to taste there wine, so they said we could go to there restaurant and get a glass of different wines. The server was super nice, it was a little challenging as she didn’t speak English and we are trying to learn Spanish but we were able to try four different wines. They were good. Not my favorite, but we only had a few. The place is cool, lots of unique plants and they have an organic garden, take time and walk the grounds. We saw the reviews about the pizza and we decided to try it and it was good but it came out warm, not hot, disappointed about that. Wife got a kale salad that was good, overall it’s a place to check out

a month agoWe are wine lovers and have had the opportunity to visit wineries and taste wine in many places around the world (Tuscany, Napa, Greece, Paso Robles, etc.) ,,, we had a wonderful time at Dos Buhos for our 1st Mexican wine tasting experience! I highly recommend reserving the "picnic" which is a delicious lunch of roasted chicken, faro salad, veggies, dessert and a bottle of Dos Buhos wine. After our delicious lunch we had the opportunity to sit with one of the owners (Eric) and taste a number of their beautiful wines ... the Tempranillo is excellent, Cab Franc is legit and the Sauvignon Blanc is unique and delicious. (We brought a mixed case of Dos Buhos wine home with us to California to share with family and friends!) If you are visiting San Miguel de Allende, do yourself a favor and carve out 1/2 a day to experience this wonderful winery and learn about Mexican wines!

5 months agoHighly recommend spending a couple of hours visiting Dos Buhos. We spent an early Sunday afternoon at the vineyard, did the tour and tasting, explored the property and had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant. They can do the tour in both English and Spanish. Staff are very friendly. The property is very lovely with lots to explore.
