Château Angélus is a renowned wine estate located in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux, France. The château is named after its bell tower, which is known locally as the “Angelus Tower.”
The history of Château Angélus can be traced back to the 18th century, when it was established by the Boüard de Laforest family. In the early 20th century, the estate was purchased by the Borie family, who still own and operate it today. Under the Borie family’s stewardship, Château Angélus has become one of the most highly respected and sought-after wine producers in Bordeaux.
The vineyard of Château Angélus covers approximately 50 hectares (123 acres), and is planted primarily with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes. The vineyard is situated on a plateau of gravelly soil, which is well-suited to the production of high-quality red wines.
In the winemaking process at Château Angélus, great care is taken to ensure that the grapes are harvested at the optimal ripeness and are handled gently to preserve their quality. The grapes are sorted and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the wine is then aged in oak barrels for a period of 18 to 24 months.
Château Angélus produces two main wine cuvées: a red wine blend known as “Château Angélus,” and a second wine called “Haut-Brion Blanc.” The Château Angélus red wine is a full-bodied and complex wine with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and oak. It is typically aged for several years before being released for sale, and has a reputation for being capable of improving with age for several decades. The Haut-Brion Blanc is a white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes, and is known for its fresh and vibrant character.
In addition to its reputation for producing high-quality wines, Château Angélus is also renowned for its beautiful architecture and setting. The château itself is a picturesque castle-like structure, and the estate’s grounds are adorned with gardens, fountains, and sculptures.
In conclusion, Château Angélus is a highly respected wine estate located in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux, France. Its vineyards are planted with Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes, and its winemaking process is characterized by careful attention to detail and a focus on producing wines of the highest quality. Its red wine blend, Château Angélus, is particularly well-known and highly sought-after, and its Haut-Brion Blanc white wine is also highly regarded. In addition to its wine, Château Angélus is known for its beautiful architecture and setting.

6 years agoAngelus is the place to go in Saint-Emilion, if you are wine-professional. The still family owned château had one of the big rises in quality over the last 30 years and is now on the top of Saint-Emilion. The history is as much amazing as the whole building and also the perfectly integrated new part. Everthing is so much reasoned!
