Introduction

Nestled high in the rugged mountains of Napa Valley, Mayacamas Vineyards stands as a beacon of winemaking tradition and excellence. With a rich history dating back over a century, this iconic winery has become synonymous with crafting exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of the region. From its picturesque vineyards to its commitment to traditional winemaking practices, Mayacamas Vineyards continues to captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide.

History

Mayacamas Vineyards traces its roots back to 1889 when German immigrant John Henry Fisher recognized the potential of Napa Valley’s mountainous terrain for grape cultivation. He established the winery on the slopes of Mount Veeder, overlooking the valley below. Over the years, Mayacamas Vineyards changed hands, but its unwavering dedication to crafting high-quality wines remained constant.

Exquisite Vineyards

The winery boasts 475 acres of vineyards, with vineyard sites located at elevations ranging from 1,800 to 2,400 feet above sea level. These lofty positions offer a distinct advantage, as the vineyards receive optimal sun exposure, while the cooling maritime influence moderates the temperatures, allowing for slow and even grape ripening. The vineyards predominantly consist of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay plantings, reflecting the winery’s focus on these two noble grape varieties.

Celebrated Grape Varieties

Mayacamas Vineyards’ reputation for excellence is closely tied to its mastery of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards yield fruit of exceptional quality, resulting in wines known for their structure, complexity, and ability to age gracefully. The Chardonnay vineyards, on the other hand, produce wines that showcase vibrant acidity, elegant fruit flavors, and a refined balance.

Traditional Winemaking

Mayacamas Vineyards takes pride in its commitment to traditional winemaking practices, which have been upheld throughout its history. The winery embraces minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to speak for themselves. This approach involves native yeast fermentation, extended aging in neutral oak barrels, and minimal filtration. The result is wines that authentically express the character of the vineyards and the vintage.

Recognition

Mayacamas Vineyards has become famous for its timeless and age-worthy wines. Their Cabernet Sauvignons are revered for their ability to evolve and improve with time, showcasing layers of complexity and refinement. Wine collectors around the world seek out Mayacamas’ offerings for their proven ability to age gracefully over several decades. The winery’s Chardonnays, too, have garnered acclaim for their impeccable balance and elegant expression of the varietal.

Conclusion

Mayacamas Vineyards stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of winemaking in Napa Valley. With its storied history, breathtaking vineyards, focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, commitment to traditional winemaking, and renowned wines, Mayacamas continues to capture the hearts and palates of wine enthusiasts globally. Whether you savor their velvety Cabernet Sauvignon or delight in the nuances of their Chardonnay, a bottle from Mayacamas Vineyards is an invitation to experience the finest expressions of Napa Valley’s terroir.

Amazing experience during our private tour and tasting. David our host was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. He shared amazing details about the history of the Vineyard and was clearly a master of his craft. Taking part of a private 2 hour experience led by a viticulturist with a mastery in hospitality is truly a gift for a couple on vacation like us. The property is located at over 2000ft altitude right in the heart of Mt Veeder and the views are just breathtaking. The entire experience felt very high-end and exclusive; and the wines were to die for. Specially the 2019 Top Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Getting there was a 30-45 minute drive from the valley but absolutely worth it. We visited 4 other wineries during our time in Napa and Mayacamas was by far our favorite.

Got a private tour from David T and it was the highlight of our Napa trip. He was incredibly down to earth and easy to spend 2 hours with while being very knowledgeable about wine and the local taco food truck scene (shoutout Happy Boy Tacos). Would highly recommend requesting him for your tour of this beautiful estate!

Our wine tour guide Chris made our entire visit to the Napa Valley area memorable with our visit to Mayacamas vineyard! This was our top vineyard and light years above any other experience we had. The private atv tour of the vineyard and cellar made the entire experience memorable. Chris was friendly and very knowledgeable. It made us appreciate the history and you can feel her passion for current owners and history of this vineyard. Thank you for an outstanding family trip; we will talking about this experience for a long time to come!

Incredible tour and tasting experience where the beautiful views were only outmatched by the wines. Our favorite experience in our Napa valley trip. David was a fantastic host. We also were lucky enough to meet one of the vineyard dogs who was friendly enough to convince us to share our breadsticks. Can’t wait for our next visit.

The tour and wines could not be more beautiful. If you can only visit one winery while in Napa it has to be Mayacamas. David was a consummate professional and made our visit all the more special.
