Millton Vineyards & Winery is a leading producer of biodynamically grown wine in New Zealand. Founded by James and Annie Millton in 1984, the winery is located in the Gisborne region on the North Island of New Zealand.
The Milltons were pioneers in the field of biodynamic winemaking, and they have been producing wine using these principles for over 35 years. Biodynamic agriculture is a holistic approach to farming that involves using natural preparations and techniques to enhance the health and vitality of the soil and the plants grown in it.
The Millton vineyards cover approximately 50 hectares (123 acres) and are planted with a range of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Viognier, and Pinot Gris. The winery also produces small quantities of red wine from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
One of Millton Vineyards & Winery’s most famous wines is its Te Pa Chardonnay, which has received numerous accolades and awards over the years. This wine is made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Clayvin Vineyard, which is known for producing high-quality fruit with intense flavors and a rich, creamy texture.
The winemaking process at Millton Vineyards & Winery is guided by the principles of biodynamics and minimal intervention. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented using native yeasts, and the wine is aged in oak barrels. This approach allows the natural character of the grapes and the terroir of the vineyard to shine through in the finished wine.
In addition to its wine production, Millton Vineyards & Winery is also committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The winery is powered by renewable energy, and the vineyards are managed using biodynamic techniques that minimize the use of synthetic chemicals and promote the health of the soil and the surrounding ecosystem.
Today, Millton Vineyards & Winery is recognized as one of the leading producers of biodynamically grown wine in the world, and its wines are enjoyed by wine lovers around the globe.

4 years agoGreat location and well established. Knowledgeable host for our tasting. Good wines. I would have liked to have tasted there more unusual wines and would have been happy to pay a little more to do so.

7 years agoWe had an excellent time tasting many wines. The staff here are personable and knowledgeable, and we received superb service, and had all our questions answered. I highly recommend you stop by this vineyard.

6 months agoBOYCOTT this vineyard!! James Milton has been convicted as a result of a bio security breach of importing illegal grapevines into NZ He has been fined $150000 and sentenced to 5 months community detention. This is a shameful and selfish act

3 years agoA fantastic find.. A long established winery that prides itself for doing things differently. What a shame it was raining while we were there. On a sunny day I can not think of a nicer place to sample their wines and share a platter while watching some cooks scratch around. The wines are beautifully crafted.. We filled the boot of the car and look forward to continue enjoying the wine in the weeks to come.
