Opus One Winery is a world-renowned producer of luxury red wine located in Oakville, California. The winery was founded in 1979 by Robert Mondavi, a pioneering figure in the California wine industry, and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, France. The two men were inspired by a shared passion for winemaking and a desire to create a wine that would be on par with the great wines of Bordeaux.
The winery was initially located in the Oakville area of Napa Valley, but in 1991, it was moved to its current location in Oakville. The new winery was designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson and is known for its modern and minimalist design.
The vineyards at Opus One cover approximately 100 acres and are located in the heart of Napa Valley. The grapes used to produce the winery’s wines are grown using sustainable farming practices, and the winery is committed to preserving the natural beauty of the land.
Opus One grows a variety of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. These grapes are carefully selected for their ability to produce wines with complex flavors and aromas.
Winemaking at Opus One is a blend of traditional techniques and modern technology. The winemakers at Opus One carefully monitor every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle, to ensure that each wine is of the highest quality. The grapes are carefully sorted and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels for at least 18 months before being bottled and released.
Opus One is known for producing some of the finest wines in the world, and its wines have received numerous accolades and awards. The winery’s flagship wine, Opus One, is a blend of the best grapes from the winery’s vineyards and is considered one of the best wines in the world. The wine is full-bodied and well-balanced, with flavors of dark fruit, oak, and spice.
In addition to its wines, Opus One is also known for its commitment to sustainability and the environment. The winery has implemented a number of eco-friendly practices, including the use of solar panels, the use of sustainable materials in the construction of the winery, and the recycling of water.
Opus One Winery has become a symbol of the excellence and innovation of the California wine industry, and it continues to set the standard for luxury winemaking. The winery is open to visitors, and tours and tastings are available by appointment.

3 months agoModern architecture and only focus on making the perfect bottle of red wine. Opus One started to focus on making the only mix of red wine from 1979. Our host Cory is very knowledgeable about all the history and the wine making process. Nice afternoon to hang out by the roof to enjoy the breeze of the wine country.

5 months agoI first came to know about Opus One after visiting 5 years ago, and I am grateful that it showed me that the 2008 vintage was my taste. 5 years later, I wanted to find something different to my taste, so I went there. At that time, it was under construction for a while, but now it looks like it has been remodeled. It was new and more stable, and the welcome tea was really good. We had a great time purchasing Magner wine and receiving various information.
