Product Description
Progeny Winery is a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. Founded in 2006 by Paul and Betty Woolls, the winery is a love story that has been decades in the making.
The Woolls first met in college and quickly discovered that they shared a passion for fine wine, cuisine, and the magic of the Napa Valley region. They married on a beautiful weekend in the fall and, on the same day, purchased a 32-acre property on the crest of Mount Veeder. This land, known as the Woolls Ranch Vineyard, had previously been used as a cattle ranch, but the Woolls saw the potential for growing beautiful grapevines.
Despite the challenges of building vineyard roads and overcoming erosion issues, the Woolls were able to create a beautiful vineyard layout with undulating hills that are ideal for growing grapevines. They planted a variety of Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet franc, St. Macaire, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Counoise on the red side, and Roussanne, Marsanne, Vigonier, and Grenache Blanc on the white.
The Woolls’ philosophy at Progeny Winery is centered around extended barrel and bottle aging, resulting in wines that are powerful, balanced, and elegant with an exotic bouquet and a lingering finish. Each year, the winery releases four limited-production wines: Trinity Blanc, Trinity Rouge, Mt. Veeder Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and their flagship bottling, Special Selection Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
In addition to the Woolls Ranch Vineyard, the Woolls also own another property on Mount Veeder known as Betty’s Vineyard. This vineyard holds special significance for Betty, as it was the first place she and Paul went for a picnic when they started dating. It is also the site of the first Progeny wine, a hand-selected, best vineyard block wine that was aged for 32 months in new French oak and then bottled for an additional two years.
Progeny Winery is more than just a business for the Woolls family – it is a love story rooted in their shared passion for fine wine, cuisine, and the Napa Valley region. It is a place where they can come together and share their commitment, loyalty, and hope for the future with others through the wines they produce. Each visit to Progeny is an opportunity to experience the Woolls’ deep rootedness in the land, their relationships, and their belief in the future.
