Château des Charmes is a family-owned winery located in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region of Ontario, Canada. The winery was founded in 1978 by Paul Bosc Sr., a French immigrant who was passionate about wine-making and had a dream of establishing a winery in Canada. Today, the winery is run by Paul Bosc Jr., who has continued his father’s legacy of producing high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques.
The Château des Charmes estate covers 100 acres, with 50 acres dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, and Gamay. The winery takes a meticulous approach to grape growing, carefully tending to the vines to ensure that they produce the highest quality fruit.
One of Château des Charmes’ most famous wines is their “St. David’s Bench Vineyard” Riesling. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the winery’s St. David’s Bench vineyard, which is located on the Niagara Escarpment. The escarpment provides a unique microclimate that is well-suited for growing Riesling grapes, and the wine produced from these grapes is known for its bright, fruity flavors and crisp, refreshing finish.
In addition to their Riesling, Château des Charmes is also known for producing a range of other high-quality wines. Their Chardonnays are crafted using traditional methods such as barrel fermentation and aging, and are known for their rich, complex flavors. The winery’s Pinot Noirs are made from grapes grown in the winery’s estate vineyards and are known for their elegant, smooth character. And their Cabernet Sauvignons are produced using a combination of traditional techniques such as barrel aging and modern techniques such as cold fermentation, resulting in wines with depth, complexity, and structure.
The wine-making team at Château des Charmes is dedicated to producing the highest quality wines possible. They use a combination of traditional and modern techniques in the wine-making process, including barrel aging, cold fermentation, and extended aging on the lees. They also pay close attention to detail throughout the process, from grape-growing to wine-making, to ensure that the final product is of the highest caliber.
Overall, Château des Charmes is a respected and well-regarded winery in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, known for producing a range of high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques. The winery’s dedication to quality, combined with the unique terroir of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, makes Château des Charmes a top destination for wine lovers.

3 months agoMy husband and I visited Chateau des Charmes for the first time yesterday and each enjoyed a wine pairing tasting, we chose the Sweet and Salty and the Four & Four pairings. Our guide Maria was so kind and knowledgeable in explaining each of the wines and pairings, even suggesting other foods and snacks that would pair well with the wines. There were signs around regarding undergoing renovations but you can barely tell when you’re there taking in the beauty of the chateau and looking out at the vines. We would definitely recommend Chateau des Charmes to others and look forward to visiting again soon!

2 weeks agoWe tried CDC for the first time this May on an annual trip to the area. The grounds are beautiful, as is the facility inside and out. Lots of fun photo ops. Dot was our tasting guide, and she provided so much information on the wines, the winery history, and general viticulture that made the experience interactive for those of us who are non-drinkers as well! Probably the best tasting guide we've had. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

3 weeks agoAbsolutely loved my visit and tasting at Château des Charmes! The castle itself is very charming and it was interesting to learn about the local grapes grown in that vineyard. I had a private tasting with Galina who was friendly, knowledgeable, and really helped me appreciate the different aromas and flavours in each wine. For the last tastings I had two types of ice wine - one made with white grapes and one red and both were a pleasant surprise! The setting was peaceful with a beautiful vineyard view. Perfect mix of education and relaxation. 10 out of 10

a month agoMy husband and I spent time at the Chateau to celebrate our birthdays. We had a wonderful afternoon. Galina spent time chatting with us, explaining the wines to us and just helping to make our day fabulous! She’s also a wonderful photographer capturing our smiles so we could share our experience with family back home. John also spent time chatting with us and making our day special. We’d love to come back some day! If you’re visiting the area, visit Chateau des Charmes. You will not be disappointed!
