Château des Charmes is a family-owned winery located in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region of Ontario, Canada. The winery was founded in 1978 by Paul Bosc Sr., a French immigrant who was passionate about wine-making and had a dream of establishing a winery in Canada. Today, the winery is run by Paul Bosc Jr., who has continued his father’s legacy of producing high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques.
The Château des Charmes estate covers 100 acres, with 50 acres dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, and Gamay. The winery takes a meticulous approach to grape growing, carefully tending to the vines to ensure that they produce the highest quality fruit.
One of Château des Charmes’ most famous wines is their “St. David’s Bench Vineyard” Riesling. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the winery’s St. David’s Bench vineyard, which is located on the Niagara Escarpment. The escarpment provides a unique microclimate that is well-suited for growing Riesling grapes, and the wine produced from these grapes is known for its bright, fruity flavors and crisp, refreshing finish.
In addition to their Riesling, Château des Charmes is also known for producing a range of other high-quality wines. Their Chardonnays are crafted using traditional methods such as barrel fermentation and aging, and are known for their rich, complex flavors. The winery’s Pinot Noirs are made from grapes grown in the winery’s estate vineyards and are known for their elegant, smooth character. And their Cabernet Sauvignons are produced using a combination of traditional techniques such as barrel aging and modern techniques such as cold fermentation, resulting in wines with depth, complexity, and structure.
The wine-making team at Château des Charmes is dedicated to producing the highest quality wines possible. They use a combination of traditional and modern techniques in the wine-making process, including barrel aging, cold fermentation, and extended aging on the lees. They also pay close attention to detail throughout the process, from grape-growing to wine-making, to ensure that the final product is of the highest caliber.
Overall, Château des Charmes is a respected and well-regarded winery in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, known for producing a range of high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques. The winery’s dedication to quality, combined with the unique terroir of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, makes Château des Charmes a top destination for wine lovers.

a week agoOur experience here was amazing!! Our server blair was amazing he went above and beyond for the tasting experience and we took a lot of info home! I took my husband for his birthday and blair made it such an amazing experience. Sad that hes leaving at the end of the month cause i would come back to get a tour from him! The wines were really good with the pairing. If you go need to try the premium tastings. Me and my husband got two different tastings and shared it which was awesome cause we got to experience two different tasting with wines! Loved the visit and will be back hopefully its just as good next time.

a month agoI had an amazing experience at this winery! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming despite us being the loudest people in there. Anwyn was fantastic—she guided us through the tasting with so much knowledge and passion for each wine, making the experience both fun and informative. Each pour was delightful, with unique flavors and stories behind them. I left with a couple of bottles and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend visiting for anyone who loves great wine and great people!

4 months agoWe had an amazing girls day out at this beautiful property. Their wine and cheese collection is impressive. We got the estate wine tasting flight with cheese board. They also served it with their lavendar infused honey which we loved. Their staff was very welcoming right from the moment we entered and checked in with us regularly. Prices are very comparable to other popular wineries but the best part is that it’s a heritage estate, so spacious and well maintained. It’s a unique experience. Would definitely visit again!

2 months agoVery beautiful estate and lovely facilities. Selected the premium wine tasting with cheese puffs. The wine was alright. The taste for the 4 options pretty undefined. The ice wine was a little too sweet and tart. The cheesepuffs were fabulous. The service rather slow although seemed that only one person was working and she did her best with the client load. Solid 3/5 stars.

3 months agoNothing special about the wine. The charcuterie(cheeses) outperformed it by far. Out of all the wines we tried, Equuleus was the best. If you're visiting Niagara Falls and looking for something extra to do, it’s an option, but otherwise, not really worth it.
