Château des Charmes is a family-owned winery located in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region of Ontario, Canada. The winery was founded in 1978 by Paul Bosc Sr., a French immigrant who was passionate about wine-making and had a dream of establishing a winery in Canada. Today, the winery is run by Paul Bosc Jr., who has continued his father’s legacy of producing high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques.
The Château des Charmes estate covers 100 acres, with 50 acres dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, and Gamay. The winery takes a meticulous approach to grape growing, carefully tending to the vines to ensure that they produce the highest quality fruit.
One of Château des Charmes’ most famous wines is their “St. David’s Bench Vineyard” Riesling. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the winery’s St. David’s Bench vineyard, which is located on the Niagara Escarpment. The escarpment provides a unique microclimate that is well-suited for growing Riesling grapes, and the wine produced from these grapes is known for its bright, fruity flavors and crisp, refreshing finish.
In addition to their Riesling, Château des Charmes is also known for producing a range of other high-quality wines. Their Chardonnays are crafted using traditional methods such as barrel fermentation and aging, and are known for their rich, complex flavors. The winery’s Pinot Noirs are made from grapes grown in the winery’s estate vineyards and are known for their elegant, smooth character. And their Cabernet Sauvignons are produced using a combination of traditional techniques such as barrel aging and modern techniques such as cold fermentation, resulting in wines with depth, complexity, and structure.
The wine-making team at Château des Charmes is dedicated to producing the highest quality wines possible. They use a combination of traditional and modern techniques in the wine-making process, including barrel aging, cold fermentation, and extended aging on the lees. They also pay close attention to detail throughout the process, from grape-growing to wine-making, to ensure that the final product is of the highest caliber.
Overall, Château des Charmes is a respected and well-regarded winery in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, known for producing a range of high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques. The winery’s dedication to quality, combined with the unique terroir of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, makes Château des Charmes a top destination for wine lovers.

a month agoWent July the 4th with 2 friends for tasting, charcuterie and chocolate. Great reception from the staff. We were assigned a lovely table by the vineyard inside the tent. We reserved for 6 Pm so we had 2 waiters to tend to us. Arthur and Noah both from France studying at Brock University added that French accent to the presentation and service. Both well mannered, knowledgeable about the wines, cheeses, meats and chocolates. Our guests were impressed since it was their first experience. We are members of Chateau des Charmes Wine Club and every visit is an adventure in tasting and enjoying the moment. Getting back in few week with more guests, hope to see these 2 lads soon. Thanks for a great day with you. Michel & Rémi

3 weeks agoWe had the pleasure of visiting Chateau des Charmes today and we were blown away by the friendly service and tasting experience in such a gorgeous setting! Maria, our host, was so kind and knowledgeable and gave us personalized recommendations (and even spoke to us in French!) I LOVED the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon and we also loved the old vines Savagnin and Eqquilus. The homemade cheese gougères deserve a special mention too! We left with a big box of wines and will definitely come back and recommend to friends and family 💕

a month agoOur tour guide Arthur was very knowledgeable about the history of Chateau Des Charmes and all their wines. Being that he is a student from France, his accent added a certain level of authenticity to the experience. I highly recommend visiting this winery. My favourite wine was their 2020 Cabernet Franc. It's worth the money.

3 weeks agoWhat a beautiful setting! Came here to attend a latin dance event. The outdoor dancing we just perfect with a tent, plenty of seats and the most magical view. If you can be here at golden hour I'd highly recommend it. Also had the chance to try one of their wines. The red cabernet merlot was a nice dry wine without being too heavy. They also have a fridge with a variety of cheeses, they also have chocolate and popcorn available for purchase.

5 months agoMy husband and I visited Chateau des Charmes for the first time yesterday and each enjoyed a wine pairing tasting, we chose the Sweet and Salty and the Four & Four pairings. Our guide Maria was so kind and knowledgeable in explaining each of the wines and pairings, even suggesting other foods and snacks that would pair well with the wines. There were signs around regarding undergoing renovations but you can barely tell when you’re there taking in the beauty of the chateau and looking out at the vines. We would definitely recommend Chateau des Charmes to others and look forward to visiting again soon!
