Château des Charmes is a family-owned winery located in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region of Ontario, Canada. The winery was founded in 1978 by Paul Bosc Sr., a French immigrant who was passionate about wine-making and had a dream of establishing a winery in Canada. Today, the winery is run by Paul Bosc Jr., who has continued his father’s legacy of producing high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques.
The Château des Charmes estate covers 100 acres, with 50 acres dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, and Gamay. The winery takes a meticulous approach to grape growing, carefully tending to the vines to ensure that they produce the highest quality fruit.
One of Château des Charmes’ most famous wines is their “St. David’s Bench Vineyard” Riesling. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the winery’s St. David’s Bench vineyard, which is located on the Niagara Escarpment. The escarpment provides a unique microclimate that is well-suited for growing Riesling grapes, and the wine produced from these grapes is known for its bright, fruity flavors and crisp, refreshing finish.
In addition to their Riesling, Château des Charmes is also known for producing a range of other high-quality wines. Their Chardonnays are crafted using traditional methods such as barrel fermentation and aging, and are known for their rich, complex flavors. The winery’s Pinot Noirs are made from grapes grown in the winery’s estate vineyards and are known for their elegant, smooth character. And their Cabernet Sauvignons are produced using a combination of traditional techniques such as barrel aging and modern techniques such as cold fermentation, resulting in wines with depth, complexity, and structure.
The wine-making team at Château des Charmes is dedicated to producing the highest quality wines possible. They use a combination of traditional and modern techniques in the wine-making process, including barrel aging, cold fermentation, and extended aging on the lees. They also pay close attention to detail throughout the process, from grape-growing to wine-making, to ensure that the final product is of the highest caliber.
Overall, Château des Charmes is a respected and well-regarded winery in the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, known for producing a range of high-quality wines using traditional wine-making techniques. The winery’s dedication to quality, combined with the unique terroir of the Niagara-on-the-Lake region, makes Château des Charmes a top destination for wine lovers.

a week agoWe had a wonderful experience at Château des Charmes, organized through Crush Tours. The estate itself is absolutely beautiful — even though renovations were underway during our visit, everything was still very accessible and well-organized. We enjoyed a tasting and food pairing, and loved how thoughtfully the pairings complemented the wines. Our sommelier, John, was fantastic — knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humor that made the experience even more enjoyable. Our tasting took place outside in the events tent, which was a really unique setting and a great advertisement for hosting future events there! We also loved that the food pairing options were available for purchase in their wine boutique. Overall, a memorable visit — we would definitely recommend Château des Charmes to anyone visiting Niagara wine country!

2 months agoMy husband and I visited Chateau des Charmes for the first time yesterday and each enjoyed a wine pairing tasting, we chose the Sweet and Salty and the Four & Four pairings. Our guide Maria was so kind and knowledgeable in explaining each of the wines and pairings, even suggesting other foods and snacks that would pair well with the wines. There were signs around regarding undergoing renovations but you can barely tell when you’re there taking in the beauty of the chateau and looking out at the vines. We would definitely recommend Chateau des Charmes to others and look forward to visiting again soon!

5 months agoOur experience here was amazing!! Our server blair was amazing he went above and beyond for the tasting experience and we took a lot of info home! I took my husband for his birthday and blair made it such an amazing experience. Sad that hes leaving at the end of the month cause i would come back to get a tour from him! The wines were really good with the pairing. If you go need to try the premium tastings. Me and my husband got two different tastings and shared it which was awesome cause we got to experience two different tasting with wines! Loved the visit and will be back hopefully its just as good next time.

6 months agoI had an amazing experience at this winery! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming despite us being the loudest people in there. Anwyn was fantastic—she guided us through the tasting with so much knowledge and passion for each wine, making the experience both fun and informative. Each pour was delightful, with unique flavors and stories behind them. I left with a couple of bottles and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend visiting for anyone who loves great wine and great people!

6 months agoVery beautiful estate and lovely facilities. Selected the premium wine tasting with cheese puffs. The wine was alright. The taste for the 4 options pretty undefined. The ice wine was a little too sweet and tart. The cheesepuffs were fabulous. The service rather slow although seemed that only one person was working and she did her best with the client load. Solid 3/5 stars.
