Quails’ Gate Winery is a family-owned winery located in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1989 by Ben and Tony Stewart, the winery is now run by the second generation of the Stewart family.

Quails’ Gate is known for its stunning location, set on a bluff overlooking Okanagan Lake and surrounded by vineyards. The winery is named after the quail that inhabit the area and the gate that marks the entrance to the property.

The vineyards at Quails’ Gate span over 200 acres and are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Merlot. The winery is also home to a small experimental vineyard where new grape varieties are tested.

Quails’ Gate is known for producing high-quality, expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Okanagan Valley. One of the winery’s most famous wines is the Old Vines Foch, a bold, full-bodied red wine made from the Marechal Foch grape variety. This wine has received numerous accolades and is highly sought after by wine collectors.

In addition to the Old Vines Foch, Quails’ Gate is also known for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Riesling. The winery’s Chardonnay is a bright, fruit-forward wine with notes of citrus and green apple, while the Pinot Noir is a delicate, elegant wine with flavors of red cherry and spice. The Riesling is a crisp, aromatic wine with flavors of green apple and citrus.

Quails’ Gate prides itself on using traditional wine-making techniques and focusing on quality over quantity. All of the winery’s wines are fermented in small batches using natural yeasts, and many of the wines are aged in oak barrels to add depth and complexity.

In addition to its wine production, Quails’ Gate also operates a popular restaurant and tasting room, where visitors can enjoy a variety of local dishes and taste the winery’s wines. The winery also offers guided tours of the vineyards and winery, as well as wine education classes and events.

Overall, Quails’ Gate Winery is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in high-quality wine and beautiful, picturesque surroundings. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or just looking to learn more about the wine-making process, Quails’ Gate has something for everyone.

What a fantastic location with a beautiful view and tasting room, wonderful wines, and great staff! Travis gave us to an excellent tasting and was incredibly knowledgeable providing so many details about each wine we were tasting, including the history of the vineyards, vines, and even wine in general. It was very refreshing to talk with someone passionate about wine rather than just hearing a script that was memorized about the wine they’re pouring. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Recently my company rented a private room for our Christmas gathering. The food was absolutely delicious, the wine pairings were lovely and the portions were very generous. The service was second to none. My partner and I arrived early so we decided to partake in a wine tasting prior to dinner. Lark looked after us, and treated us like royalty. She was very professional, and extremely knowledgeable. She made the experience unforgettable, and was the best tasting experience I have ever had, and I have been to every winery in the valley. My only suggestion would be for you to invest in a large round or oval table, as it is better for socializing. Some of our team members we don’t get to see very often, and some of them live out of town, so it would have been better to see and talk to them throughout dinner in this type of setting.

On Feb 18 2024, my long time friend reunited with me at Quails Gate to have wine and lunch to grieve for my mom who had just passed. We did a wine tasting with Lark and she must have sensed our vibe. She served us well and when we were in discussion, she sensed when to not talk to us about wines. Some wineries have staff that prioritize their presentation. Lark sensed when to interject and struck the perfect balance. She was lovely. Thank you to Lark!

This review is a tad bit overdue, but necessary. My family and I came to our reservation in July 2023, which we booked months in advance; We had friends from out of town join us (party of 2). When we arrived at the restaurant the initial hosts had no issue with us trying to sit together, it was the assistant manager that made a material issue out of the matter. I sat there discussing potential seating options with the assistant manager, who after much negotiation gave us a larger table inside (FYI, we never asked for a patio table, they allocated that to our original four top). I completely understand during the summer months how busy the restaurant can be and how limited seating can be, however the day and time we were there, there were open tables for the duration of our 3 hour stay and our $700 bill. The assistant manager that we dealt with was one of the most antagonist people I have met in any of the wineries that we have been to.

Beautiful tasting room. Jerome lead us through an exceptional tasting experience that was both informative, and unpretentious. He has an encyclopedic knowledge and genuine passion for the wines of Quails' Gate.
