Peller Estates is a family-owned winery located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. The winery was founded in 1961 by Andrew Peller, who immigrated to Canada from Hungary in the 1940s. Peller Estates is known for producing a wide range of wines, including red, white, sparkling, and ice wine, using traditional winemaking methods and a focus on sustainability.

Peller Estates has several vineyards in the Niagara region, which is known for its cool climate and rich soil. The winery grows a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir. These grapes are carefully tended and harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality fruit.

One of Peller Estates’ most famous wines is its Icewine, which is made from grapes that have been frozen on the vine. This process allows the winery to produce a unique and highly concentrated wine with intense flavors of fruit and sweetness. Peller Estates is also known for its red wines, particularly its Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc.

In terms of wine making, Peller Estates follows traditional methods, using small batch fermentation and aging its wines in oak barrels. The winery also has a focus on sustainability, implementing practices such as cover cropping and drip irrigation to reduce its environmental impact. Additionally, Peller Estates has a state-of-the-art winemaking facility that uses the latest technology to produce high-quality wines.

Peller Estates is a popular tourist destination, offering tastings and tours of the winery and vineyards. The winery also has a restaurant, Peller Estates Winery Restaurant, which serves dishes made with local ingredients and pairs them with the winery’s wines. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor patio with views of the vineyards, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine on a warm summer day.

Overall, Peller Estates is a well-respected winery known for producing high quality wines and for its commitment to sustainability. Its wines, particularly its Icewine, have gained a loyal following and helped to put the Niagara region on the map as a premier wine-producing region.

My wife and I stopped in at Peller Estates on our January 2025 NOTL trip to do a tour. We wanted to experience one of the “big name” wineries on our trip after doing a bunch of smaller wineries. Chelsea was an absolute star of a tour guide! She had such an effective style of presenting that made the tour so much fun and her wit was hilarious. She made the tour experience top notch. The tour itself was neat- you walk around the vineyard, see the barrel cellar, then end in the ice box (which is like negative something Celsius) to try their ice wine. I’m glad we did the tour at Peller Estates and it was definitely memorable- many thanks to Chelsea!

Visited Peller Estates winery on a weekday in November and was not very busy . Booked Greatest winery tour for 4 and tour started on time with guide giving in depth explanations about the wines to be tried. Tour lasted about 45 minutes and ended with visit to ice cave. Nice “igloo” style room with plenty of ice wine and nice decor. We continued to wine store/bar and tried additional wines as part of the Wine Club. Very much enjoyed everything.

Excellent winery to enjoy a tour at! All of their tour hosts are very knowledgeable and teach you the history of the family, estate, and wine in a fun and engaging way. You're usually welcomed with a glass of their popular sparkling wine, you'll meet everyone else on the tour and learn a little bit about each other which makes it more personable. Then you'll go down through the cellar to see the aging wine in oak barrels, out into the vineyard to see the current state of growing grapes, and then finally finish with a chilly visit into their walk-in, ice wine room. Warm jackets are provided but it wouldn't hurt to bring earmuffs/gloves of your own. It's remarkable inside - definitely a one of a kind experience that we haven't seen anywhere else. You'll try around 4-5 different wines over the course of the tour and they're very happy to provide an extra glass if one was your favourite. We went as a couple but I'd recommend this for solo wine enjoyers and larger groups alike.

We had a wonderful experience at this winery! The 5-course tasting menu paired with their selection of wines was delicious. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and paired perfectly with the wines, enhancing the overall experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the meal. The only slight drawback was that the service was a bit slow at times, but the quality of the food and wine made up for the wait. Overall, highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable culinary experience.

Originally booked a table for 4 at the restaurant and when my friends decided to join me, I called to add 3 more ppl to my booking (2-3 days prior to the date). The restaurant staff told me that there was nothing available and couldn’t do that. I said I could do earlier or later than my original time booked. So she took a minute and then came back to tell me that yeah could arrange table for 7ppl at 12 instead of 12:30pm. So I was thankful for the lady’s help. Then we went there and we were the only party in the main dining room until 1:30pm (and then another table for 2 came in)…. 🤔. I thought that was just funny. If one wants to order the tasting menu, then the entire group must order the same. Given my teens and some friends didn’t want to eat so much, we decided to go for a-la-cart. Some dishes were ok and some were less (my friend got a lobster linguini and a bunch of pasta was stuck together uncooked - not quite acceptable for this type of restaurant but anyways we didn’t complain). If you like presentation and nice amber, then it was above average. If you need very good service (they couldn’t split the bill for us, and when we told them it was for the occasion of my friend’s son’s birthday, the waitress brought some sparkling wine for us and we told her that oh, but the birthday boy is not old enough to drink, so she just poured the adults a glass which we were happy about, and eventually no offer of any dessert or anything for the birthday boy but we were quite full by then and so didn’t order any desserts) and a more cosy setting, then there are better alternatives in the area (my favourite is still Vineland, just my own opinion).
